Our First Cruise (aboard the Ruby Princess)

Mike and I have never been on a cruise before...me mainly because of my motion sickness. We were well prepared as a friend told me about Sea Bands. I purchased them a few months prior to our trip to try out in long car rides.  They seemed to work well in the car and allowed me to read and watch movies without getting any motion sickness.  Mike got these cruise tickets for my Christmas gift last year. We were very excited about going on the trip.

Mike chose the Ruby Princess because it was not known to be a party boat.  There were some kids on the boat but it was not crazy and loud (like the Carnival boats that we passed during our cruise).  We got an inside cabin room that did not have windows but I was not complaining. It was difficult to wake up in the mornings though when the room was still pitch black.  We adjusted rather well though.  The weather was perfect on the day of sail.

After settling in and unpacking everything, we explored the rest of the ship. She was so beautiful.

We had to return to our rooms at a certain time to perform our emergency drill. We had to meet in Muster D along with several 100 other passengers and practice putting on our life jackets.

We watched Gravity on their big outdoor screen...it was very nice. They call it Movies Under the Stars. They even popped popcorn for us later that evening.

We were at sea day 2 of the cruise. The water didn't get rough until about dinner time. We ate at Michelangelo and I started to feel nauseous. Good thing we only missed dessert. I went back to the stateroom and went straight to bed. The water was much more calm the next day.

Day 3 of our cruise had us in Cozumel. We made reservations to visit Tulum Mayan Ruins, Playa del Carmen and some shopping.  The ferry ride to Tulum was 40 minutes long but I slept the entire way because I had taken a drammaine just to be safe.  The site was very beautiful. Mike was a bit disappointed because he thought that he would be able to climb the steps of the ruins.

Our tour guide, Lilliana, taught us the difference between the Mayan Calendar and the Aztec calendar.  She was really nice and funny! She said the day we were going to Tulum was a good day because it was cloudy, overcast, and a bit windy. It was humid on our walk but it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

We were able to see a Mayan Culture center with Mayan workers. Lilly taught us how to say Thank you in Mayan.

Lilly told us that the average height of Mayan women was 5'0 and for men, it was 5'8". This picture shows how low the ruins were built.

This was the view of our boat as we returned from our Tulum excursion. She was a massive beauty!

Mike was able to get a picture of the Carnival cruise ship the next day as we docked in the Cayman Islands in George Town.  The boat was so loud and you could hear the music playing on the very top deck.  This picture shows the tender they used to take passengers onto the island.  We were surprised that they used their own life boats, which was what the Ruby Princess did as well.

You can see the reefs in this next picture!

We brought the game Phase 10 in can form. Wendy gave it to me for Christmas and we thought it would be fun to play on the cruise. We took the can with us to kill some time before any of the "events" we attended. It was great fun!

Our last night on the boat. You can see the balloon behind us...they were having a "Countdown to the New Year" party starting at 10:30 at night. It was weird having a New Year party when it was the middle of March. Needless to say, we did not attend the party.
